Across the nation, the number of prescribers sending electronic prescriptions has skyrocketed from 36% (190,000) in 2010 to 58% (317,000) in 2011 of all office-based physicians actively e-prescribing. More than 570 million prescriptions were routed electronically in 2011, versus 326 million on 2010. This represents a 75 percent increase in just one year's time. In March, 2012, 8655 of office-based physicians in Indiana sent more than 1.5 Million electronic prescripti9ons on the Surescripts network using an EHR.

Pharmacy Report

Nationwide, more than 98% of chain pharmacies and 79% of independent pharmacies are connected to the Surescripts network and able to e-prescribe.In addition, 91% of retail community pharmacies nationwide processed an electronic prescription in March, 2012.These statistics1 indicate both the ability to accept prescriptions electronically, as well as the level of active utilization of e-prescribing capabilities.Below is a map of Indiana’s e-prescribing activity, as well as the growth in activity since June 2010.
